I turn the alarm off and immediately sense my need to start my day in the word of God. It feels like I have the Monday morning blues, even though it’s the middle of the week.
Years ago, I started getting up before my kids to read the Bible in the morning. I honestly look forward to it. It’s my necessary fuel (along with some coffee) and always helps me have joy.
The Bible is the “living and active” word of God and brings nourishment to our depleted souls. Share on X
In fact, there are many verses that show how the Bible helps us in our daily lives. My pastor shared some of these promises in his sermon a few months ago, and I wanted share some of them here.
1. The Bible gives us joy.
“The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant giving light to the eyes.” (Psalm19:8 NIV)
2. The Bible revives us.
“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.” (Proverbs 19:7 NIV)
3. The Bible gives us understanding.
Has God’s word ever revived your soul? I can’t count how many times the Lord has encouraged my heart by showing me a verse just when I needed it. The Bible also gives us wisdom to know how to apply scripture to our life.
“May my cry come before you Lord; give me understanding according to your word.” (Psalm 119:169 NIV)
4. The Bible equips us.
5. The Bible guides our life.
6. The Bible trains us in righteousness.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2 Timothy 3: 16-17 NLT)
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm (119:105 NIV)
7. The Bible warns us.
8. The Bible brings us great reward.
“The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey from the honeycomb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” (Psalm 19:9-11 NIV)
9. The Bible helps us not to sin.
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”(Psalm 119:11 NIV)
10. The Bible strengthens us.
“My soul is weary with sorrow, strengthen me according to your word.” (Psalm 119:28)
11. Obedience to His Word helps us succeed.
“Study this book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed.” (Joshua 1:8)
12. The Bible nourishes our souls.
13. The Bible helps us experience the Lord’s kindness
“You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you can grow into the fullness of your salvation. Cry out for the nourishment as a baby cries for milk, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.” (1 Peter 2:2-3)
14. The Bible sanctifies us.
“Sanctify them by your truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17)
15. The Bible helps us live pure lives.
“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.” (Psalm 119:9 NIV)
What ways has the Bible helped you in your everyday life?
Bless you Valerie.
Read the Bible…….and then share in His teachings to other depleting souls, because Christianity is in decline.
There is so much more that we Christians need to be doing. We spend our lives praying and asking, listening and asking, reading and asking, devotionals and asking and in Bible studies and then asking some more.
But when do Christians actually do what He called them to do?
When do they actively spread the gospel?
When do they actively share His glory?
When do they actively reach out to the masses and share in His life?
When do they share His words?
We spend a great deal of time in asking plenty of Him and not doing enough for Him.
He called each of us to do more for Him as Christians.
To show and tell Him.
So true. You have me thinking why sometimes we fail to share the good news. I think we get complacent and forget what our real purpose is on this earth. To glorify God and share the message of his love. Sometimes our own pain keeps us numb. Life is hard. But when we seek to know who God is and experience his great love for us, our hearts are changed. Until our hearts are changed by the love of God, we may stay complacent. I think fear holds us back too. But the more we obey God when he prompts us to share, the more we experience the power of the Holy Spirit working through our weakness. I love how the Holy Spirit empowers us and helps us to love others, showing the fruit of the spirit in our lives.
Thank you for posting the giveaway. I think the question is, what books am I reading. I’m reading Finding Quiet, by JP Moreland, a small but detailed book about his struggle with anxiety and depression.
That sounds like a great book Jeanne!
YES! I love this! A couple of months ago, I did a personal study on what the Bible says about itself. It was such a gigantic motivator to get into God’s Word! Like you, it has become my “bread and water”, the nourishment I need to sustain, equip, empower, counsel, and encourage me through every day. On the days when I miss it, I sure do feel it! What a priceless gift God gave us in this precious Book!
What a great study! The Bible is an endless source of knowledge and joy that brings transformation. Thank you so much for commenting Jana!
