Has anyone ever broken a promise to you?
Don’t broken promises make trusting hard? Perhaps broken promises have scarred your heart and you find yourself having a hard time trusting the promises of God.
God will never break his promises! Share on X
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? Numbers 23:19
Since we’re human, sometimes we allow our feelings to invade what’s true. But thankfully, how we feel never affects the truth found in His word! Amen to that! There are thousands of promises in the Bible. God has the power to fulfill all that He promised us! We can claim these truths in prayer. Claiming them through prayer affirms our faith in them.
What promises can we claim?
Some of the promises in the Bible are meant for a particular time and situation, like God promising a baby to Sarah. Other promises are followed by acts of obedience to precepts or commands in the Bible. For example, Proverbs 3:5-6 says that when we trust in the Lord with all our heart and acknowledge him in all our ways He will direct our paths.
When we trust in God, He directs our paths! Share on X
And many promises are meant for all believers: The promise of salvation for all who believe. (Romans 10:9) And the gift of the Holy Spirit which gives us peace.
Praying The Promises of God Strengthens Faith
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
Are you worried? Afraid? Discouraged?
I’ve found when I claim God’s truth, my faith is strengthened. Share on X
Recently, I was nervous about something I felt God wanted me to do. But I was afraid of failing. I needed to claim God’s truth. And once I did, my worry subsided. My nerves calmed down. I felt confident. Equipped. Peace replaced fear, doubt and worry. I claimed this scripture:
Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant. 1 Corinthians 3:4-6
One way to claim scripture is to thank God for his promise. I thanked him for making me an adequate servant. When I feel inadequate, I can be confident that my sufficiency comes from God!
God’s word is living and active!
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Do you feel lost in life? His word will guide your path.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105
Do you need counsel?
Your statues are my delight; they are my counselors. Psalm 119:24

I dealt with a battle in my mind a few years ago. I dealt with constant condemnation, but using scripture to say out loud every time those thoughts came back helped me eventually to be free! Great post, Valerie!
I think battling the mind is one of the toughest battles we face. I’m so glad that saying scripture out loud helped you. I think saying verses out loud puts voice to the truth, to our hearts, and dispels satan from infecting our thoughts!
Lovely. The way to build muscle on your faith! Great post. Love your prayer focus.
I love that. To build muscle on your faith. Thanks April!
I love this. Praying Gods promises has strengthened my faith too. I like that praying His perfect word back to Him leads me to be more in line with His will and plans, and when He is faithful, as He always is, I am less likely to claim His credit. It was His promise, His word, His faithfulness.
That’s true Elaine. Praying his word leads us to be more in line with his will and plans. And helps us recognize his hand in answering our cries.
All the promises of God is yes and Amen and his promises insure us that he is a god that can do anything that we pray and ask for and he never goes back on his words, 2 corinthians1: 20
Amen, Debra. He never goes back on his words.
Loved this and shared it, Valarie! So very true, and I love the verses you pray, especially 1 Corinthians 3:4-5. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing Leslie.
Thank you, Valerie. Such an important reminder of a powerful gift that is our’s for the taking. And I loved your debt story, about your dad and the laptop. Beautiful. Visiting from Women with Intention. Blessings…
Oh, thank you for your kind words. God is always showing me his truth in the daily happenings and ups and downs of life. Blessings to you.
Thank YOu.. I really felt I needed this reassurance today.
I claimed Philippians 5 :6-7 .. Do not be Anxious !! Praise His Holy Name Adonai ..
thank you for allowing God to work through you.
many blessings
I love that verse Lisa! I’m so glad it reassured you!
I really needed this. I have a catch 22 situation and I needed to affirm God’s control and good plans for my life and the things I am responsible for. It’s good.
Oh those situations are so hard. I pray that God would give you wisdom to know what to do.
Boy, did I need to read this post today! I’ve been in heavy spiritual battle this past year and Proverbs 3:5-6 is the verse that God has led me to time and time again. I’m not even surprised when I see it pop up anymore. I know God is speaking to me, and I have to listen. Thank you!
I love how God does that! I’m so sorry you’ve had a hard year Alecia. Praying for you!
I love your list of what claiming God’s promises does for us. Amen!
I think it deepens and grows my trust and relationship with my Father when I claim His truth and affirm them in my soul.
Yes Deborah! Claiming His truth reaffirms our heart that He is in control!
I love these scriptures I really needed these today do u know which ones I could read about having a baby and keeping my faith
Hello Rhea,
I went through 6 years of infertility before I had my first pregnancy. The verse that helped me the most was Matthew 6:25-34 when Jesus was teaching us not to worry. “Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” I was at a time when I was doubting that God loved me because I had tried so long to have a baby. He showed me a sparrow to remind me of his love. Then I came home and opened my Bible and this verse was the first thing I saw. Whenever I felt sad or discouraged, I would hear birds chirping or a sparrow would land in my view. I have other verses as well. But I just want to encourage you to not lose hope in God’s love for you. No matter what, you will be ok if you stay close to Him and share your hurt with Him. I also wanted to recommend a book I often give to my friends who have tried to have a baby. It’s an amazon link and all those links on my blog are affiliate links…but this book really ministered to me. There’s also a journal available where I would write down my prayers as I waited.
Hi! give me the link. I have struggled to get fruit of the womb for fifteen years. I am a lady of 51 years who no longer see her periods.
All of those scriptures contain all His good promises! Love the ones you listed today… said them outloud to myself and to Him as I read them! My day truly needed that kind of boost!
Thankful I found you at Deb’s linkup!
I’m so happy these verses encouraged you today Christine! Thank you for commenting.
Valerie,
Yes, I love praying Scripture, too. And the one you shared today was what I needed to be reminded of…what God calls me to do, He will equip me…blessings to you 🙂
Hi Dolly,
Thanks for stopping by and I’m so glad the scripture promise ministered to you. God bless you!
Love this post, Valerie!
And, your video is sweet in this series as well!
Sure am blessed by you~
Melanie
Thank you, Melanie!
Yes! Amen! Yes! And Amen again and again! I love the list of what praying the Scriptures does, Valerie! I love that God put you on Arabah’s heart to be a part of this. You pray so beautifully and have such a heart to encourage others.
Love you,
Lori
Thanks Lori! YOu are so encouraging to me!
A friend once said keep God to his promises. It’s so reassuring especially when life is difficult to know we can rely on God’s promises.
I love that, Rachel! In my times of doubt, I admit to telling God—BUT you said that…..! It reall y helps dispel fear and doubt.
Thanks so much. I ordered this and signed up too. My kids are grown but I still pray for them and now my grandsons.
I love that you pray for your kids. My mom prays for me and even signed up too! There’s nothing like a mother’s love!
It’s so important to remember those promises He has given us in His word. When going through hard times I remember that He promised never to leave. I trust His presence with me and He brings me peace. Blessings to you, Valerie! Thanks for visiting my blog earlier!
Hi, Gayl! Thank you for taking the time to comment. God’s presence always brings us such peace no matter what is going on in our lives. I’m so thankful that He is always with us. Have a great day!
There is such power in prayer!! Thank you for the reminder to pray God’s promises! He is always faithful 🙂
Thank you for visiting Casey!
I’m so thankful for our friend Arabah’s ministry! Thank you for highlighting it here, and for encouraging us to claim God’s promises on behalf of our children. There’s nothing greater we can do for them! I’m glad you shared this with us at Grace & Truth.
Thank you, Jennifer! I agree, there’s nothing better we can do for our children than to lift them up in prayer!
I love this idea! I would add Psalm 57:2 to the list. “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” It’s such a comfort to know that we can trust that God is the one who fulfills His purpose in our lives. We can set aside our striving and choose to trust and obey. Thank you for sharing these beautiful passages.
Oh, I just love that promise too, Angela. I’m so glad that we don’t have to strive. We can rest and trust that when we are following God He will fulfill His purpose for us. Amen!
I love that promise about adequacy in 2 Cor. 3:4-6! I’ve claimed that one before.
I’ve also claimed His promise never to leave or forsake me so many times that it has become my life’s verse. I’m so glad that He has always and will always keep that promise!
And I’ve claimed the promise, for myself or those for whom I am praying, that He who began a good work in us will be able to complete it! He doesn’t give up on us! Praise His name! 🙂
Yes, such great promises! I love that God will never leave us. I cling to that promise too. And isn’t it wonderful that he completes His work in us? I’m so glad he doesn’t give up on us. Thank you for stopping by, Ruth!
I love this idea and challenge that you are participating in, Valerie. God’s word is so powerful–alive and active, sharper than a two-edged sword! That’s some power and I think we take that for granted sometimes. Praying God’s word especially over our children is something I haven’t done in a while, but am inspired by you to reconsider it. My sons are all young men, but they are facing some of the biggest decisions of their lives at this juncture. Thanks for reminding me to practice that kind of praying for them, my friend!
Hi Beth! My mom is even praying the promises for me, so it’s never too late. I love that God’s word is living and active! Amen!
Remembering and standing on God’s promises does strengthen faith. I need those reminders, and His word encourages me on many levels. I’m enjoying the prayer challenge. Your cards are beautiful.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the prayer challenge, Ginger! Thank you for your kind comment!
Fantastic scriptures and truths you share here Valerie. I am sharing for sure. I thank God for all His promises..such power in them all! I hope all is well with you and family. Have a wonderful weekend and may God richly bless you and yours!
Thank you, Horace. May God’s promises fill you with peace!
