I loved how the book broke down one of my favorite verses— “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you” (Psalm 56:3 ). David wrote this verse when he was fleeing King Saul and was so afraid he pretended to be insane in order to escape.
“In this verse, and throughout the psalms, the realities of fear and danger are not dismissed. Instead, they are acknowledged, and from that humble honesty, David directs his own heart, and ours, to turn to God in trust.”
To gain more understanding into the meaning of the verse, the book pairs verse 3 with verse 4 and encourages readers to let the rythm and structure of the writing to help ease fear.
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.”
There were many verses I didn’t expect to find since they didn’t have the word fear or worry in them. I enjoyed thinking about how each scripture helps overcome worry and anxiety.
Romans 8:34, “Christ Jesus who died—more than that, is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.”
What a comfort to know God is praying for us in our times of trouble!
This is a great book to keep on hand whenever moments of anxiety rise. You can read it through from the beginning or choose any verse you want to know more about.
I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review.
