Why You are Significant

My alarm jolts me at 5:00 a.m. I pat my nightstand to find my glasses and make my daily trek downstairs for that essential first cup of coffee. I walk my puppy to the backyard and stand on the dewy grass while I wait. It’s dark outside. I look up into the expanse of the heavens and the light of the moon and the Big Dipper shines the holiness and power of my God.

I can’t help but wonder, as did the psalmistโ€ฆ

What is man that you take thought of him?

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;  What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him?  Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! Psalm 8:3-5

Who am I in the majesty of his creation? I certainly don’t feel as splendid as the stars appear to me. I don’t feel as bright as the moon in my sphere of influence. How is it that he cares for me? Can it really be true?

O LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? Psalm 144:3

When we study the truth of God’s word we discover that we are certainly not insignificant in God’s eyes. Here are 5 reasons why you are significant, even when you feel ordinary.

When we study the truth of God's word we discover that we are certainly not insignificant in God's eyes. Here are 5 reasons why you are significant, even when you feel ordinary.

1. God Names The Stars

The Bible says in Psalm 147:4, that God counts the number of stars and names them. How many stars are there?

According to this website, the Milky Way itself has over 100 billion stars. Beyond the Milky Way, there are around 100 billion galaxies. Taking the Milky Way as an average galaxy with 100 billion stars and multiplying that by the other galaxies, there is an estimated number of ten billion trillion stars! And that’s just taking into account what we think we know about. The possibilities are endless.

The website states:

“Suppose these stars were divided up among the world’s total population of 6 billion people. Then each person on Earth would receive more than 1 trillion stars!”

Surely if God knows the names of “my” one trillion stars, then he must care about me more than my human mind can comprehend.

He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.โ€ฆ Psalm 147:4

Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. Isaiah 40:26

That is the God whom I trust. That is the God whom I live for. He is great in power and mighty in strength.

He’s the God who not only names the stars but sees me on this ordinary day doing routine things. He sees me looking up into the depths of creation and bids me to come to him in trust and believe in His love and care for me. The same love that gives a name to each and every star amongst the ten billion trillions of them. This same God sees me. Names me. And thinks of meโ€” a lot!

2. Godโ€™s thoughts of you outnumber the grains of sand!

The Bible says that if we were to count the number of times God thinks of us, his thoughts would outnumber the grains of sand! Have you ever tried to count the grains of sand on the beach? Probably not, because we know it’s impossible. I can’t even fathom the amount of love a handful of sand represents.

“How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of the sand.”

You may feel like it’s impossible for God to see you when compared to the vastness of his creation. But he knows exactly where you are and what you are thinking.

3. God is pleased with you!

God is pleased with the creation of YOU! He wanted to create you.

O Lord you created all things and they exist because you created what you pleased. Revelation 4:11

4. You were in His care before you were born!

I am your Creator, you were in my care even before you were born. Isaiah 44:22

If you doubt God’s care for you today, then remember that he was caring for you before you ever took a breath!

5. Every day of your life is recorded in God’s book!

O Lord, You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Psalm 139:16

This very day was important enough for God to record it.

Sometimes we fixate on getting through the habitual day-to-day activities and we forget that God’s love for us is bigger than we can imagine.

Don't forget: on this ordinary day, you have an extraordinary God who thinks you are pretty significant! Share on X
