In Talk Yourself Happy, Transform Your Heart by Speaking God’s Promises, former co-host of the 700 Club Kristi Watts learns to rely on God when she finds herself suddenly single and unemployed.
Just three months after giving birth, her husband walked out—depleting the bank account and leaving her without any financial or emotional support. And then she lost her job.
As she adjusts to the challenges of her new reality, Kristi learns to transform her heart by encouraging herself with the truth found in God’s Word.
The true essence of trust is the ability to cast aside our own understanding of a situation and have the courage to surrender to the only One who fully knows all aspects of the situation.
She learns to dig deep and uncover areas in her heart that keep her from finding the freedom of joy and true happiness.
I started digging into what God has to say about happiness. I realized that our happiness isn’t contingent on exterior factors in the form of things or people. Rather, true happiness is birthed within our heart.
For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Luke 6:45)
One way to talk ourselves happy is to readjust our conversations by not talking about the failures of man and instead talking about the faithfulness of God.
Each chapter reveals areas where God transformed her heart as she learned to speak the truth of His promises.
- Compassion
- Trust
- Identity
- Obedience
- Forgiveness
- Praise
- Help
- Promise
The chapters conclude with Steps To Talk Yourself Happy and an application section titled, Now Take It, Speak It, and Live It!
I enjoyed her transparency as she shared how she learned to forgive and have compassion for her husband who called eleven years after he left to tell her he was dying of cancer.
This isn’t a book about faking happiness, rather it helps others dig deep inside heart issues so that God’s promises can transform thoughts and spill out into authentic everyday living.
The purposeful act of aligning our words, our hearts, and our minds with God’s word—both Jesus himself and the scriptures—is the key to happiness.
I was given a copy of this book from BooklookBloggers in exchange for my honest review.
This was a timely visit for me, Valerie, as the Lord has been bringing people into my life that may just need to read her book. So glad I was able to visit. Thank you for sharing!

Valerie – Wow, I can not image being in Kristi’s shoes, but the book sounds like a fantastic read. I fully believe the words we speak are so very important and especially important that we speak scriptures over and into our life situations. it sounds like a book I need to add to my summer reading list. Thanks so much for linking up to #TuneInThursday today!

Sounds like a good book. Isn’t that true, our happiness comes from God and his truth and love and grace. Love the title.
