In Faith, Doubt, and God’s Mysterious Timing, Laurie Polich Short shares 30 biblical insights about how God works. Her reflections on each passage are refreshing and helped me better understand timeless Bible stories I’ve heard since childhood.
Each chapter explores three passages in the Bible that equip us to trust God when we don’t know what’s happening in our life. Threaded throughout the book, readers discover the main theme— how we, too, can live our way into knowing instead of knowing our way into living.
This book contains a plethora of helpful quotes! The author does an amazing job getting to the heart of the meaning and sharing a principle we can live by and remember. Here are some of my favorites:
“When it comes to faith, not having what it takes is exactly what God needs. The space between what you have and what God does with it is where God loves to shine.”
“Over and over again God urges us to give Him what we’ve got and trust Him for what will happen with it. There may be hurdles in giving up our security and comfort, but the more we let go, the more we experience what God can do. It is also true that the more we give God to use the more our faith grows when we see what God does with it.”
“Our fear has the power to filter what actually happened and can prevent us from gaining faith from what God did in the past. If we don’t hold the hope of our stories, our memory can be reshaped by the stress and worry of our current circumstances.”
“At some point, life’s difficulties expose whether our circumstances hold our faith or our faith holds our circumstances.”
“When we align God with prosperity and comfort, we believe God has abandoned us when prosperity and comfort are taken away.”
This book is easy to read because it points out how scripture speaks into our every day realities using timeless biblical principles.
I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
